Managed Pressure Drilling Techniques

ABSTRACT
The economic of drilling offshore wells is important as we drill more wells in deeper offshore water. The drilling-related problems, including stuck of drill pipe, lost circulation and excessive mud cost, show the need for better drilling technology. If we can solve these problems, the economics of drilling the wells will improve, thus enabling the industries to drill wells that previously uneconomical. Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD) technique is a new technology that enables a driller to more precisely control annular pressures in the wellbore to prevent the drilling-related problems. This report will discuss the MPD techniques in tandem with the analysis and design for MPD technique for the successful application.
In the end of this report, the author will suggest on the further studies and research have to be done in order to look at the new approach of the using other medium in order to drill faster with increasing the rate of penetration (ROP) using air, mist and foam. Hence, the drilling cost will be reduced.
